ER4043 Aluminum TIG Filler Rod

The ER4043 aluminum TIG filler rod is a filler material classified under AWS A5.10 ER4043, used for GTAW/TIG welding on aluminum alloys where a fluid bead, good wetting and lower hot-cracking tendency than stiffer fillers are required. It is a common reference for work on profiles, sheet, light structures, vehicle bodies, aluminum metal fabrication, cast part repair and industrial maintenance. Its aluminum-silicon composition differentiates it from ER308L and ER309L stainless rods: here the main criterion is not stainless steel corrosion resistance, but metallurgical compatibility with the aluminum base metal, surface cleanliness and heat control during TIG application.

Selection guide

• Select ER4043 when the base metal is compatible aluminum and the procedure requires good weld pool fluidity.
• Validate the base alloy before welding; not every aluminum series accepts the same filler.
• Use shielding gas, tungsten and polarity in accordance with the TIG procedure defined by the qualified welder.
• For anodized or coated parts, remove contamination in the joint area before fit-up.

Use recommendations

• Clean oxides, grease and moisture with a brush dedicated to aluminum and suitable solvent.
• Avoid mixing brushes or discs used on carbon steel to prevent joint contamination.
• Keep rods dry and protected from dust until application.
• Control heat input to reduce distortion in thin sheets and profiles.
