03Technical description

95/5 tin-silver solder is a lead-free alloy under ASTM B32, composed of tin and silver, used as soft solder filler on copper, brass and assemblies where a stronger joint than traditional tin-lead alloys is required and compatibility with lead-restricted specifications is needed. It is a frequent alternative in refrigeration, air conditioning, copper networks, sanitary maintenance and installations where the buyer needs better mechanical and thermal performance than an economical tin-copper solder. It differs from 96/4 by the silver proportion indicated in the product and from 95/5 tin-antimony by the alloying element, which influences wetting, cost and joint behavior. Final selection must align with the installer's procedure and project standard.

Selection guide

  • Choose 95/5 tin-silver when the project requires lead-free filler and good performance on copper.
  • For a more economical lead-free option, compare with 99/1 tin-copper.
  • For specific antimony requirements, use the Sn-Sb 95/5 reference.
  • Confirm flux compatibility with copper, brass or stainless steel before installation.

Use recommendations

  • Cut, fit and clean the tube or accessory before applying flux.
  • Heat the complete joint so the solder is drawn by capillary action.
  • Do not exceed necessary heat, especially on small fittings or thin walls.
  • After soldering, clean flux residues and verify leak tightness according to the work procedure.

04Frequently asked questions

What is the price of 95/5 tin-silver solder?

The price varies by packaging, quantity and alloy availability. SoldaForce quotes via WhatsApp with delivery details.

What is the difference between 95/5 and 96/4 tin-silver?

Both are lead-free and tin-silver based; they differ by the silver proportion indicated in each reference and by the requested specification.

How is it installed on copper piping?

Clean tube and fitting, apply compatible flux, heat the joint and feed solder so it flows by capillary action around the assembly.

Is it suitable for potable water?

It is a lead-free alloy used in copper applications where the project allows compatible soft solder. Always confirm the applicable sanitary specification.

Is it the same as silver brazing alloy?

No. This is tin-silver soft solder; it must not be confused with silver brazing fillers for different temperatures and procedures.

What standard should be requested?

The lot is identified under ASTM B32. In technical purchasing, specify 95/5 alloy, application and required packaging.
