03Technical description

20/80 tin solder is an ASTM B32 Sn20 tin-lead alloy with high lead content and a wide pasty range. Its advantage is allowing filling, leveling and manual finishing in jobs where a more fluid solder would run too easily. It is suitable for radiator repair, metal bodywork, sheet metal work, surface restoration and workshop seals that are not intended for potable water or food contact. It differs from 30/70 because it is even more pasty and oriented to building volume; compared with 40/60 or 50/50, it sacrifices fluidity to gain control during shaping. Selection must consider ventilation, lead handling and compatibility with the base metal and flux.

Selection guide

  • Choose 20/80 when the job requires filling or rebuilding a surface with manual control.
  • Use 30/70 if a pasty option is needed, but with slightly more tin.
  • Do not use it in potable water, food or lead-free specifications.
  • Check whether the workshop requires bar for torch work or a different packaging.

Use recommendations

  • Remove paint, grease and rust until sound metal remains in the work area.
  • Apply suitable flux and heat gradually to prevent detachment.
  • Shape the solder during its pasty phase with a tool appropriate to the process.
  • Work with ventilation and personal protection because it is a lead-containing alloy.

04Frequently asked questions

What is the price of 20/80 tin solder?

The price is confirmed according to packaging, quantity and availability. Send your request via WhatsApp for an updated quote.

What is the difference between 20/80 and 30/70?

20/80 has less tin and more lead, so it is more pasty and useful for filling; 30/70 offers slightly more fluidity.

How is it applied for metal filling?

Prepare the metal, apply flux, heat in a controlled way and work the solder while it keeps a pasty consistency.

Is it suitable for electronics?

It is not the recommended option. Electronics use alloys with better fluidity and more defined solidification, such as 63/37 when lead use is allowed.

Can it be used in potable water piping?

No. It contains lead and is oriented to metal repair, radiators and non-potable work.

Under what standard is it identified?

The lot product is identified as ASTM B32 Sn20.
